Mt. Gulugud Baboy Anilao and The Sumbrero Island, Anilao Batangas

Mt. Gulugud Baboy is located in Anilao Mabini Batangas. This is one the favorite destination of water sports enthusiasts because it offers a great experience for diving and snorkeling.

February 2013

This is the third mountain of  "ESKAPO MOUNTAINEERS".
A workmate of mine Mr. Brian Tonua who is my mentor and used to be a member of "INTEL MOUNTAINEERS" shared a story about his experience in Mt. Gulugud Baboy. He told me about the terrain of this mountain. The beautiful hills of this mountain made this called as " Little Pulag". Since Mt. Pulag is one of my dream mountain to climb, I decided to bring my group in this place.

We left at GMA Jam liner around 6pm and took a bus going to Batangas City. We asked the "konduktor" to drop us off to Bauan Batangas which is 30 minutes away from  Batangas City proper. From Bauan Batangas we chartered a jeep to bring us directly to the jump off which is the Philpan Resort.

We started the trek at exactly 10 o'clock PM. It was very late because everyone came from work. The trail was not confusing because the path way was very visible. There were three kubos if im not mistaken before the first peak.

The last kubo before the First Peak

We reached the campsite at 12:15am. Two of my members Brian Tonua and Carlos Yao celebrated their birthday at the campsite. The campsite is an open area because its literally on the hill. That night was zero visibility because of the thick fog, unfortunately  we weren't able to do our socials. We were also struggling on pitching our tents because it was very windy. After taking our late dinner we decided to rest and reserved our energy for tomorrow's adventure.

It was a great morning. It was warm because it was sunny yet windy. We had a heavy breakfast prepared by me ^_^ .This is what i like about  "Night trekking". You never know how beautiful the view from the mountain once you go out from your tent and shout GOOD MORNING GUYS.....!!!!!!!!! TIGNAN NIYO!!!!!!!!!

This is the best morning that i will never ever forget.  The ocean and clouds were perfectly matched that made the view relaxing to the eyes. This could be a best place for a prenuptial photo shoot. It was really a perfect morning!!!!

PEAK OF MT. GULUGUD BABOY

When we reached the peak we all prayed for our future adventures, for the success of the group and our own prayer. It was peaceful. I cant help myself but enjoy the view of the ocean and the clear skyline.

We decided to go back to the campsite to packed up our stuff.....

The adventure to Mt. Gulugud Baboy will never be complete without visiting the Sumbrero Island. The island was called Sumbrero Island because if you will see this from the peak of Mt. Gulugud Baboy(Peak 1)  its like a floating hat.

This is a memorable boat ride. It took us 40 minutes to get to the Island because the waves were strong which normally takes only 20 minutes. There was a time that we had to turn off the engine and wait for the waves to ease for a moment. Sobrang saya at nagsisigawan lang kami kapag malakas ung waves at mababasa kame. Sobrang tawanan. It was same thing pabalik... LOL!!

Finally we reached the SUMBRERO ISLAND

THE ESKAPO MOUNTAINEERS

Even we wanted to stay longer. Manong bangkero told us that we need to be back before 6pm because during dark the waves gets bigger and water gets higher. But from a local that i have talked to said that its possible to stay in the island for overnight its just that you have to pay the bangkero twice but there also a risk that the water gets bigger and you will be forced to go back to the resort.
